ALL ABOUT CARNATIONS

Carnations are a very popular flower, rich with history and symbolism. This delicate flower has been coveted for its frilly, ruffled appearance and long-lasting, clove-like fragrance for centuries, and has remained one of the world’s most cultivated blooms. They are known for representing pride, fascination and love. As is common in floriography, the language of flowers, the color often plays an important role in the specific message one wants to send. For example, white carnations convey purity and good luck, while pink carnations are given as signs of gratitude. Dark red flowers represent deep love and affection.

Carnation flowers celebrate a rich history indeed. They can be traced all the way back to Greek and Roman times. More recently, the British National Carnation Society was established in 1949 to celebrate this wonderful flower. Legend has it that the first carnation was the earthly manifestation of Mother Mary’s undying love for her son, Jesus, resultant from a tear splashed upon the ground under the cross carnation flowersare in season year-round to help commemorate a wide array of emotions. These flowers, after all, are the stuff boutonnieres are made of. Carnation could come from “coronation” or “corone” (flower garlands), as it was one of the flowers used in Greek ceremonial crowns. This popular flower was also called dianthus by the Greek botanist Theopharastus.

SPRAY CARNATIONS!!!

These smaller versions of standard carnations commonly known as spray carnations or miniature carnations, generally have four to six flowers per stem. Like their larger relatives, some cultivars have a clovelike scent. Most are double forms with many ruffled petals. Spray carnations belong to the Caryophyllaceae (pink) family and are native to the Mediterranean region. There are some 75 genera and 2,000 species, many members of which are deemed wildflowers or weeds, including sweet William.

Bulk Mini Spray Carnation flowers are a traditional flower in a spray with several ruffled, ball-shaped blooms per stem. They’re perfect for wedding bouquets, table centerpieces or flower arrangements.

Whether is Regular Carnations or Spray Carnation, another reason why carnations have become popular is because they come in numerous colors and each color of carnation has a different meaning. Some of these meanings are listed below. It is a good idea to check the meaning of the particular color or type of carnation before you gift them to someone.
