The movie or book Perfume is a classic. It reminds its audience of the great power, although a bit exaggerated maybe, of fragrance as a sensation. Phrases like “smell like a rose” do not come from some fantastically imagined place, rather, they are testaments to man’s experience.
When we are in the presence of flowers, we are often taken to such heights that, in an effort to preserve this wondrous experience, we seek to somehow grasp it. Now, part of the tragic yet great beauty of flowers is undeniably the fact that they perish. Yet their aroma is something we have managed to preserve.
Think of cultures such as in the Eastern part of the hemisphere where we can find dishes perfumed with rose water syrups and other such elaborate orange-blossom-enhanced concoctions. It is a wondrous thing, no? The things that flowers can inspire are endless.
