Sending Roses

The process of sending roses

The process of sending roses is a commonly done process in the United States, especially during times like Christmas and Valentine’s Day where the giving of roses is a common practice. The reason it roses are given during this time is that they represent love and emotion and the giving of a rose is another way of showing someone a gesture of emotion. Some people believe that the giving of a rose represents love, while other others believe that the sending of a rose is simply a way of saying ‘I’m thinking of you’. The fact is that roses can be sent for any reason, and even dead roses are sent to have the opposite effect to a beautiful bouquet of red roses.

Not many people realize that different colored roses have different meanings, and while the traditional red rose does simply mean ‘I love you’, other colors of rose represent different things from friendship to honor. Yellow roses are slightly different in that they represent friendship and are actually meant to mean freedom. This is why it isn’t a taking a good idea to send roses as a gesture of love to the special one, but it is appropriate to send this kind of rose to a newlywed couple. Yellow roses are also appropriate to send to new mums. Pink roses are generally made to represent friendship and gratitude. Quite often pink roses will be given between friends and often used as decoration for events that are not romantically inclined. In darker shades they can also be a thank you gift, and pink has come to represent femininity and also is the color of solidarity against breast cancer.

One rose color that most people probably know about is white. White represent innocence and purity, and this connotation is also the same for wedding dresses and the color white at a wedding ceremony. White roses are often used as the main bouquet for the bride at her wedding, and it is not unusual to have a white rose-lined pathway leading up to the aisle to represent the move from innocence to the role of a married woman.

No matter what color rose is bought for women; meaning will always be the same. The giving of flowers has a general gesture associated to it that the giver thinking about the receiver in some capacity. This universal message can be meant with the giving of lilacs, orchids, roses and even simple everyday flowers such as raisins. No matter what flower is given to a person, gesture is always meant to say ‘I’m thinking of you’. Giving flowers to another person is a big step in many peoples’ lives, as it is the ultimate gesture that cannot be read in any other way. Part of this is its charm, as the person giving flowers needs to put their necks on the line a little in order to get their message across, and this whole gesture can be seen as extremely romantic or kind.
